Caren Berry, founder
The idea for Colorful Kidz began after a trip to India where I volunteered at an orphanage. I returned home inspired to do more to help children. Through my church I learned about a family transitioning from a shelter into public housing. While the church could provide basic furniture, the home still lacked the personal touches that make a house feel like a home.
The family had two young boys who loved baseball and airplanes. Drawing on her professional expertise and newfound mission, Caren took on the project of transforming their bedroom into a personalized sanctuary that reflected their interests and personalities.
"When those boys saw their room for the first time, their faces lit up with pure joy," Caren recalls. "In that moment, I knew this was what I was meant to do. That day, Colorful Kidz was born."
Today Colorful Kidz is a 501(c) 3 children's nonprofit. We have a 1000 sq. foot retail space and workshop located in East Sandwich, Massachusetts. Our mission is to create room makeovers for children and teenagers in need on Cape Cod.
